IU Global Conference 2010

April 26-30 2010 London, UK

The IU are delighted to be holding the 2010 Global Conference in London.

We will be posting further details on the conference as they develop, along with information on booking with our partner hotels within the city.

It is going to be a critical time in the global economic environment and we hope that our discussions, workshops and debates will be of interest to our IU members as well as the wider public.

This conference will be of particular importance in the light of the global financial crisis and how the IU and our colleagues can get our message into the mainstream.

Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th : A debrief on the Georgist success. Have we succeeded or failed over the last 80 years and how do we face the future as a movement.

Wednesday 28th: a film preview and an expert roundtable discussion

Thursday 29th: Land taxation and the future of the Islamic world

Friday 30th: The environmental challenges and how a land value tax can lead real change. The day will concentrate on the problems of growth in the global economy; and how to address the environmental challenges that are now at the top of the political agenda.

We will be showing the world premier of “Treason” - the IU sponsored 3 part series that is currently in production.

Information, as we finalise the programme will be on the website. Nominations for Executive Committee membership will be open from the 26th January - 14th April 2010 and the nomination form will be available to download and return to the IU office.

The Silver Bullet

Face it. The world is no closer to consigning poverty to history. Why is there still poverty from whole countries of the poor South, to the back streets, slums and trailer parks of the rich West? The good intentions, the money, the rhetoric, the pity and the media histrionics are but pinpricks to a world-rampaging monster. They say there is no silver bullet. Neither Geldof or Bono, nor the United Nations, nor the vast assembled hosts of international aid and development agencies have the answer. Doesn t every citizen of the world have an equal right to the good life? With so much wealth in the world, why are so many of us so poor, when we could rid ourselves of this monster? And the fact is, there is only one way to kill poverty…
