IMF speaks out on taxing economic rent

IMF’s Michael Kumhof suggests taxing taxing economic/land rent.

“You could have more progressive income tax… you could tax rents. These are incomes that are earned by people who are basically not putting in any extra effort to make that money.”

He urges the experts on taxation theory to think about these questions intelligently to improve the macro economic stability.

Michael Kumhof is the Deputy Division Chief of the Modeling Division, IMF Research Department.
